Centre for Environment Education (CEE), Ahmedabad in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF), Government of India is holding the Asia Pacific UNEP TUNZA children and youth conference from 6th to 8th February 2012. The Conference will bring together children and youth from the Asia Pacific region to learn and share their perspectives on issues of environment and sustainability which will be taken to the global platforms of the Rio+20 Conference in Brazil and the CBD COP 11 in India both being held in 2012.
The participants will formulate project ideas on the theme “Sustainable Lifestyles for a Green Economy – the Future we want”, which they would work on from February 2012 till October 2012. The theme would cover issues such as sustainable consumption, equity and dignity, science and technology choices, in the context of Rio Principles. These projects would be about “Leadership” roles the participant youth will play in their institutions, in the community or beyond. The projects would include awareness, education and communication efforts; ‘action’ based projects in their institutions/community; which would have a demonstrable impact.
The TUNZA Conference will provide young leaders mentoring and support to plan and implement their ideas that define the “Future they want”. It will also help them connect the “global” thinking on sustainable development to “local” and tangible ideas which they can work with.
